Owner-Trainers

We are three siblings who love to train horses for eventing...and for anything else a potential owner might want.

Katrina Schmitt

Katrina began riding horses as a toddler in Illinois, where THANKS-A-LOT FARM began. She holds a degree in animal science with a specialty in animal nutrition, and is a trained farrier. She has competed through the Two-star level on a mare she broke and trained herself. Katrina has trained hundreds of horses since beginning as a trainer with mini horses as a nine-year-old. Katrina is the farm farrier and keeps all show horses up and running as well as attending to breeding stock and most importantly the growing foals.

Alyssa Schmitt

Alyssa began riding horses as a toddler in Illinois, where THANKS-A-LOT FARM began. Alyssa has evented through the Preliminary level. She also has experience showing horses and ponies in the hunters and jumpers on the "A" circuit. Alyssa’s particular interest is in developing young horses and eventing them through their first year of competition.

Nikolaus Schmitt

Nikolaus, like his sisters, began riding horses as a toddler in Illinois, where THANKS-A-LOT FARM began. He is at the moment working toward degrees in computer science. Nik has years of experience training horses. He had competed through the Training level by the age of eleven. At the Farm, Nik is the breaker—he starts all our horses. He is also one of our competitors, training horses for competition by riding them in events.

The siblings at very early ages started breaking and training mini horses, worked their way through pony hunters and eventers to larger animals…and the rest is history. All three also dedicate themselves to animal husbandry.
